London Melia Hotel set to open in time for Olympics

The leading hotel and timeshare group Sol Melia are expecting to open one of their most impressive hotels yet, just in time for the London Olympics.

Located at the corner of the Strand and Aldwych in London's theatre land, the new hotel will be a landmark for the group because it will combine the historic façade of the legendary Marconi House with a new building, mixing history with contemporary comforts.

Progress on the development suffered a set-back in June due to a fire, which threatened to delay the planned opening, scheduled for the run up to the London Olympics.

Nevertheless, Gabriel Escarrer, CEO of Melia Hotels International said, “We expect to finish in April or May at the latest in order to run it two to three months ahead of the Olympic Games, which would be a delay of only one month from the original planned opening date".

The 156-room “ME London” will wow guests with its striking pyramid-shaped lobby area and amenities including fitness and business centres, complimentary wifi throughout, a rooftop bar with views of Somerset House and the Thames and the fashionable in-house New York restaurant STK House.

Sol Melia recently rebranded to Melia Hotels International and its vacation ownership division Sol Melia Vacation Club is now Club Melia. Escarrer said the new brand reflects the group’s increasingly globalised portfolio, with 32 new hotels in the pipeline before 2014, mainly in China and Brazil as well as Vietnam and Thailand.

ITRA are pursuing the coordination of a claim to the courts on behalf of timeshare owners who can justify due cause for refund compensation, distress and damages on the grounds that their timeshare purchase was not of merchandisable quality.
